Module 14 - Passage Planning
Execute Phase
Active recall
Section 4 of 6
Which term means “but be ready to adapt”?
Follow the plan, but remain flexible. Keep a navigational log at intervals matched to the risk: stable open water may justify hourly entries, while pilotage and nearby hazards require much more frequent fixes. Cross-check electronic positions and maintain a proper lookout.
Stick to the planned route unless you have a good reason to deviate. If you do deviate, update the plan and tell the crew.
Key points
- Follow the plan — but be ready to adapt
- Keep a nav log: course, speed, log reading, fixes
- Cross-check GPS with visual observations
