• Choose the right paper-chart tool for direction, distance or position work, prepare it for accurate use, and leave a light, labelled plot that another navigator can check.
• Transfer a true direction between a plotted line and a chart compass rose without changing the angle, then resolve the intended direction from its reciprocal.
• Use the orientation marks and scales on a suitable course plotter to draw or read a direction, then independently detect alignment and reciprocal errors.
