Rope Care and Handling
Inspect ropes regularly for chafe, fraying, and UV damage. Replace ropes that show signs of wear at loaded points. Wash ropes in fresh water after use in salt water to remove salt crystals that cause internal wear. Store ropes coiled or on reels, away from chemicals and sharp edges.
Never stand in a bight (loop) of rope โ if the rope comes under load, it could trap or injure you. Always keep fingers and hands clear of winch drums and cleats when lines are under load.
