Navigational Publications

Several publications supplement charts: the Nautical Almanac (e.g., Reeds or Macmillan's) contains tide tables, tidal stream atlases, port information, light lists, radio information, and safety data. Admiralty Sailing Directions (Pilots) describe the coast, harbours, and approaches in detail.

The Admiralty List of Lights gives comprehensive details of every navigational light. Admiralty Tide Tables provide detailed tidal predictions. For leisure sailing, a comprehensive almanac covers most of these in one book.

Key Points

  • Nautical Almanac — tide tables, lights, port info, radio (all-in-one)
  • Admiralty Sailing Directions (Pilots) — detailed coast/harbour descriptions
  • Admiralty List of Lights — comprehensive light details
